Questions

Good things to ask.

What happens after I sign up?

Two emails. If you chose insurance, Alma sends a link to create an account and add your plan. CAPTA sends my scheduling link from care@captapsychiatry.com. Most people get both within the hour during business days.

I didn’t get the emails.

Check your spam or promotions folder for messages from Alma and from care@captapsychiatry.com. If they aren’t there after a business day, reply to any CAPTA email or call us.

Do you see patients in person?

Visits are by secure video. I’m licensed in 37 states, and you need to be physically located in one of them during each visit.

How long are visits?

First evaluations run about an hour. Follow-ups are about 30 minutes and include therapy as well as medication management.

Do you prescribe controlled substances?

Some medications, such as stimulants and benzodiazepines, fall under federal and state telehealth rules. Whether one is right for you is a clinical decision made after an evaluation. It isn’t promised before we meet, and I’ll always explain the alternatives.

What does self-pay cost?

$450 for the first evaluation and $230 for each follow-up. There are no membership fees or add-ons. I can give you a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement.

Do you take Medicare or Medicaid?

Coverage for Medicare and Medicaid plans depends on the plan and the state, and those plans have their own rules about self-pay. Please call us before signing up so we can tell you whether I can see you.

Do you see children or teenagers?

CAPTA currently sees adults 18 and older.

What if I’m in crisis?

Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to the nearest emergency room. Email and this website are not monitored for emergencies.

I travel between states. Can I still be seen?

Yes, as long as you are physically in one of my 37 licensed states at the time of each visit. Pick the state you'll be in when you book. If you'll be somewhere else, we reschedule.

How do refills work?

Ask at your visit, or reply to any CAPTA email at least a week before you run out. I check refills against your next scheduled visit so you do not run short.

Will you coordinate with my therapist or primary care doctor?

Yes, with your written permission. Coordinated care usually works better.

Is my information private?

Yes. Sign-up details are encrypted in your browser before they are sent, the site uses no advertising trackers, and your health information is protected under HIPAA once you are a patient.

How do I cancel or reschedule?

Use the link in your booking confirmation, or reply to our email. Please give at least 24 hours’ notice when you can.
