PTSD & trauma

Trauma can show up years later as nightmares, being constantly on guard, or feeling numb. Treatment helps.

Signs it may be time to get help

  • Intrusive memories, flashbacks or nightmares
  • Avoiding reminders of what happened
  • Feeling on edge, easily startled or irritable
  • Trouble sleeping or feeling disconnected

How I evaluate it

You do not have to describe your trauma in detail at the first visit. We focus on your current symptoms, sleep, mood, substance use and safety, and what support you already have.

Treatment options

  • Medication for PTSD symptoms, sleep and nightmares
  • Referral for trauma-focused therapy such as CPT or prolonged exposure, which are the most effective treatments
  • Coordination with your therapist if you already have one

What telehealth can and can’t do

If you are in danger now, call 911. For crisis support, call or text 988.
